Irishkaiser - One of the many practices we’ve adopted from a real world organization and admire is the North Vietnamese Army’s understated criticism and self-criticism sessions where after every action, victory or defeat ends up with sober talks exposing mistakes or problematic behavior among their own side. It became so integral that periodic conferences among its units is the norm rather than the occasion. The People’s Army of Vietnam and the Cong knew that to learn, improve and adapt at all levels was important, especially against a tactically formidable opponent such as the United States Military with its considerable arsenal and firepower, which was symbolized by the so-called “air superiority” established by the United States Air Force.
Funnily enough, the Vietnamese, though depicted as being powerless in the air in popular culture, turned out to be one of the world’s deadliest air forces after their performance in the American War. The arrogance and overconfidence costed the United States Air Force unbelievably high casualties and losses in both men and material. Notice how you never hear about that… Those criticism and self-criticism sessions could’ve been useful. It was so bad for the United States Air Force, that they modeled their entire fighter trainer programme to specifically deal with the North Vietnamese Air Force. That’s right. It wasn’t against Soviet Air Doctrine, Chinese or even other deadly air forces of the era… It was the Vietnamese they are training against until 2003 where the TOPGUN program was discontinued.
The first Vietnamese air victory was severely one-sided and the odds were heavily in favor of the Americans. That first victory there and is now known as a public holiday in Vietnam called Air Force Day. This was because the Vietnamese achieved all of that with obsolete older MiG models before Uncle Brezhnev sent them MiG-21s.
To top it all off, throughout the American War, the United States Air Force has total of… Three aces. While the Vietnamese has 17. Wow. This dismissal and ignoring of unbelievably high amount of casualties and losses is not at all excusable and it still isn’t excusable in pop culture where the Vietnamese Air Force is depicted as either poor and held back by superior American firepower… Or even non-existent.
An interview of a veteran during the “American War” explained the Vietnamese concept of Criticism and Self-Criticism.
QUESTION: Do you think criticism and self-criticism is good or bad? Do you think it is fair?
ANSWER: I believe that criticism and self-criticism is very good and fair. It is also very necessary for the strength of the unit; it helps bring about progress within the unit. Criticism is made in order to improve a person, in order to permit the unit to constantly build itself up in a constructive way… Criticism and self-criticism are complementary: I make a self-criticism, but there are still one or two of my weak points that I refuse to bring out for review, perhaps out of pride, but my comrades still extract them from me, because I can never conceal them completely, however I try…
QUESTIONS: What did the other men say about the method of criticism and self-criticism? Were there any men in the unit who didn’t approve of it or were against it?
ANSWER: Generally speaking, everyone approved of criticism and self-criticism. This was because we all recognized that if there was no criticism, the problem - whatever it might be - would be left unsolved among the disputants, and as such, it could only cause annoyance and trouble to the unit as a whole. Like a small spot of staining oil, you must wipe and clean it out as soon as you spot it, for if you allow it to spread out, then very soon it will cause great damage… Thus, in many cases, the men in the unit suggested that a criticism session be held if such a session had not yet been called. Apart from the unscheduled criticism sessions, there were regular ones held every month and week: the purpose of those sessions was to permit the men to express their viewpoint because it was believed that everyone’s opinion could be useful and beneficial to the unit as a whole. It was expected that each man would stand up and make his own self-criticism. I believe everyone in the unit was convinced of the good of those sessions. No one ever expressed disapproval on this point. Of course, those who had lots of vices and committed many faults would naturally feel reluctant to stand up and make a self-criticism, but no one ever denied the usefulness of such a method as a means of self-improvement.

I am a bit concerned that we are now so secretive, that simple trades are requested to be censored for security purposes. What fucking dirty alleyways have we walked ourselves into.
As in any Military Exercise report, the author will only publicly publish all the negative findings but keep most of the positive strengths a secret.
Two large groups designated as STRIKEFOR and PREMFOR opposed each other. Both sides did not know exactly how many the other would bring, but a total of 20 people participated in the Military Exercise which shocked both as the high amount of numbers prompted both sides moments of psychological shock as they did not expect one or the other to be able to deploy such high numbers. On administration, it is once again reported that an unclear message from the top command had confused the words Crymoore and Crowmure and so the event confused on the battlefield locations. The “triangle” that was repeated somehow became a square as the original initially was supposed to be Fort Saward, Lost Woods Shrine and Crymoore as the border of battlefield areas. It is not conclusively found out where the miscommunication of the words “Crymoore” and “Crowmure” came from, so the top brass takes full responsibility for not giving enough effort to give clear and concise orders or plans to the lower ranks.
Fighting itself was very brutal as both sides suffered heavy casualties, it is noted in team STRIKEFOR that though they were winning initially, their overconfidence created an attitude that dismissed negative information and kept emphasizing and deluding themselves with positive information. Many in Team STRIKEFOR stayed quiet when they were dying or died, thus they did not keep track of their combat strength and were shocked after such a stunning and amazing play in the beginning, they lost the battle.
Team PREMFOR’s main problems were in its organization of communication which was last-minute. Team PREMFOR is also known to be “slow” and not rapid enough in taking the initiative, but this is culturally because of UTC doctrine where strategically it is easier and more “acceptable” to wait for the enemy to make mistakes rather than risk an attack. Unfortunately, both sides were UTC so both sides were waiting for the other to make a mistake. One of PREMFOR’s DASHING HUSSARS, repeatedly requested a raid on the enemy to keep them on their toes and to make them use up resources, but the Hussar’s request to perform a raid after reportedly seeing an opening was turned down repeatedly.
The Hussar did it anyway, in direct contravention as they feared the Hussar would die, but the initiative was taken and the Hussar created some panic among Team STRIKEFOR. Whether or not this should be rewarded or punished, the concept is always about taking responsibility for the risk and as such, the Hussar was not punished nor was he awarded as the battlefield was raging and other priorities had developed. A proper command structure wasn’t established as the European Company was wiped out in the early stages prompting those left alive from the European Company to be absorbed to the American Company and conflicts of rank were potential but non-apparent. Huh, an entire Company of EU lol.
This weakness should be addressed on who is in true command or control if one unit is wiped out but its officers are still intact.
Team STRIKEFOR’s main problem in combat other than lack of inter-communication and their dismissal of negative information is their resupplying. Many in team STRIKEFOR could not adequately resupply even from the ones they killed and this left them extremely vulnerable to second or third waves in contrast to PREMFOR which had ad-hoc supply lines that served them adequately. It is not enough that they be told to “learn” as they don’t know what to reference. Irishkaiser would present a solution privately.
In terms of Supplying, the standards for Team PREMFOR was lowered as they were supposed to play a variety of inventories from combat inventories of full combat, to shitty and whatever to simulate “random” elements and components of a fight. Especially that one beggar who goes like “HELLO, I BOUGHT NOTHING. PLEASE GIVE ME INVENTORY.”
The fighting was brutal as both sides displayed immense courage and moments of undeterred charges with both sides thinking they’re winning even when on the retreat, but certain individuals got caught up in the feelings and became overconfident were wiped out as they broke formation and started fighting as individuals and not as a team, thinking the fighting was already over. Those who suffered early defeats on the otherhand, were more sober and had a better view and unit control of the battlefield as they were not deluded by their past victories but rather what was in the moment and the now.
Also, one fucker… Logged in his ALT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BATTLEFIELD. I AM SORRY WHAT. HOLY SHIT. ARE YOU THAT DUMB? That action was enough to cause the decisive defeat of Team STRIKEFOR.
The Striker Inventory is seen as a good base to work on and is highly potent for a squad of the UTC’s most elite fighters. However, it is suggested that variant inventories of the Striker be based on a person’s role and preferences. The author suggests a role explained in private known as the “Striker-Captain” where it would perfectly compliment any self-inflicted or friendly fire by the deadly Striker itself.
The Striker though however is still expensive and so it seen as a waste to give them to some random schmuck on the streets.
Experience was also gained on the Striker’s main weapons systems and now we know how to make it more effective. It actually requires a different way of aiming.
Regimental authority is still supreme rather than timezones.
Kaiser Arsenal when co-producing Striker Inventories found more ways to industrialize and produce different inventories and items that are considered “valuable”. The production cheapens certain items to the point that what was once considered specialists weapons are to be given freely now and even the grunts may have them in which they will spam it at the enemy and so they will complain and we will have a new nerf.
