HEADLINES: TRADE RUN DEVELOPS NEW COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
ASPERMONT, WESTERLANDS - The last trade run developed a new method of type-based communication that has proven itself under peaceful conditions but has not yet been tried out in battle as this trade run had no hostiles and was quite peaceful.
The opportunity presented itself when one Company Member had to leave the chat for personal reasons but would still be in-game, able to communicate needs and wants at least sufficiently. Non-voicechat friends of the Company also joined and it served sufficiently well.
Irishkaiser has brought it up to Hill Guards to develop and flesh out the system and maybe even share it to the Commonwealth as a sort of standardized communication method for those who aren’t in voice chat. Yeah, we NATO Alphabet now.
EDITORIAL - Systematic Edge of the Chinese Model
Irishkaiser - As we live in an increasingly multi-polar world, the strategic competitors are now exhibiting their independence culturally, politically and economically from the American world order post World War 2. The days of enforced democracy are waning and other nations with their own unique models are beginning to show themselves as proven and just as capable, if not better than the globally accepted mode of democracy.
The current biggest strategic competitor is the People’s Republic of China and it has shown the world that it too can work without the stuff we take for granted such as basic human rights. The only safeguard is the fear that if they fuck up too bad, the Chinese people will probably overthrow them in violent revolutionary counter-revolution. The greatest enemy of the People’s Republic is not anyone from abroad. No, it is the Chinese people itself.
The authoritarian government of the People’s Republic is based on one-party “socialism” with “Chinese characteristics” and then transitioned to a mixed capitalist economy with “Chinese characteristics”. The term Chinese characteristics is an umbrella word to refer to all the changes that would suit the conditions of Chinese culture and or elite. Still, the center of it all is the monopoly of power by the Chinese Communist Party.
China was a country that had a long and terrible period of instability. About a hundred years of humiliation and anarchy. Warlords fighting for power against outsiders and themselves made the Chinese people suspicious of anything that would disrupt peace and order and so they accepted the heavy handed rule of ALL parties at that time. Even the “democratic” Nationalist Party or the Koumintang was just as authoritarian. So as long as they provided a faint hope of peace and stability, the Chinese accepted it.
The Communists of course won the Civil War and proceeded to reform the country. No one would form major groups to oppose them violently considering that they finally won and it would be a hassle to FIGHT ANOTHER CIVIL WAR ALL OVER AGAIN and enacted five year plans to rebuild the country and industrialize it. This worked exponentially well and China had the highest economic growth rates in the late 90s and the 2000s. As long as the Communist Party kept the people happy, the Chinese people were willing to look the other way and let the Party take the reins.
The unrestricted party whose main goal is maintaining power and whose main safeguard is the Chinese people formed a smooth engine of progress. The party placates the people by providing the Chinese what they’ve wanted all these years - peace, wealth and prosperity - something that was so denied them generations past. A side-effect of this is that the government is actually doing what a government is supposed to be doing and gives the people what they want and through socialism suppresses the individual liberties that are deemed a threat to the current social stability.
Government projects are on schedule, economic growth is a priority at least and poverty and other social ills are fought against viciously.
Of course this form of government is not trans-nationally acceptable to other cultures. Few share the trauma the Chinese experienced and Chinese countries such as Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Taiwan have shown that the Chinese too can prosper under the Western model. But China does not seek to export its model to the world, it prefers to keep to itself and not meddle in the affairs of others so as long as the understanding is that there will be no meddling in its affairs.
Still, the People’s Republic has the grit and capability to fight against external forces in order to keep internal forces under control. During the 2008 Recession, many countries suffered in one of the worst depressions to hit the modern world… Except the Chinese. The Chinese Communist Party, using a huge amount of its powers and most importantly, driven by the fear of instability took the reins and made great efforts to prevent unemployment and keep their economy stable. In fact, it used the recession as an opportunity for foreign companies to invest and place jobs that were deemed expensive to procure in their home countries to China.
China’s edge is practicality, while other countries are held back by politics. The only question is, would we be willing to give up our personal liberties to let the man in the high castle dictate to us what is and isn’t right for you?

- The first march will always be the march of the trade run leader’s regiment

- At the end of the trade run, the trade run leader’s regiment’s slow march will be the only thing that plays.
