HEADLINES: PERIODIC LAGS AFFECT AMERICANS. UTC FARMERS DON’T MIND.
ASPERMONT, WESTERLANDS - The periodic lag noted earlier by non-American players in MineZ is starting to affect the American players as total server crashes were reported in the past week by both Americans and non-Americans. The state of lag however is not as lethal to the Company’s farmers, but did scare Company field operatives during trade runs and other such activities.
No reports of complaints from dungeon runs.
It’s not bad, really. Well, by that I mean, we’ve been through worse.
EDITORIAL - Hong Kong. A Hope, not a Warning.
Irishkaiser - As someone who has been there recently: Hong Kong is a hope - it is not a warning. Though we have grim memories of Tiananmen Square and know of the ruthlessness of the Beijing Government in getting its way, the brave Hong Kongers who go out there and actually fight for their freedoms fills me with great admiration and most important of all: hope.
For years since I played this game, I have been beaten down with disappointment after disappointment over the mental gymnastics and pathetic excuse of human beings of the people I have encountered here. Selfish, loathsome, jealous creatures who would disregard principles as soon as possible out of convenience, whether they be social or political.
I admit, I have been a bit blackpilled over time and “accepted” this as a state of things for the current generation of Westerners.
To have balls to recognize and fight for your rights in a civilized fashion and meet it with such conviction to resist and bite, just moves me. Especially when it’s so close to home.
Of course there too have been many protests in the past years, but most of those protests were only after things got bad that people realized they things were bad.
Occupy Wallstreet? Great job with that, guys. The movement killed itself. The anti-Net Neutrality demonstrations? What demonstrations? Ya’ll just sit in your asses doing nothing. And those that did do something, get this: I was told that they attacked YouTube headquarters… What?
YouTube isn’t even an internet company, but a site that would be affected. Great foresight and wisdom.
The Hong Kongers who saw the bill, KNEW the implications of extraditing to the Mainland. They went out there and fought with civility and vigor over the future of their city. Not when shit got bad did they finally complain, but their liberties were prized so their rights they maintained.
Seeing the protests live on television as well they were incredibly coordinated as if it was a mutual understanding they all fought and did what was best for their goal. Have you seen those barricades? They allowed journalists and other people in with some movable mechanisms that can quickly be closed soon as riot police would approach.
Even more amazing: they have no leaders.
That was some zerg level shit I swear to God.
I am a witness and I encourage people to visit Hong Kong in this historic time. The country is still safe.
Still, the realities must be recognized and that we know Beijing can never say yes, even if it wanted to. Yes, even if it wanted to: it cannot agree.
It would set a dangerous precedent all across China that if you protest and cause trouble - you would get your way. Can you imagine the trouble the Communists Party of China would go through having hundreds of little protests all over the mainland by every little group that wants a little bit more autonomy? And what of Macau even who might realize they too can get a deal like Hong Kong?
I don’t want to say I have the answers to everything, but Carrie Lam is key to this and I don’t think she should step down for a proper solution. I do believe she loves Hong Kong but as a politician that is under the power of superiors far stronger, she can only do as she’s told. It’s her job to execute it however and how she executes it is up to her. From what I’ve seen, she’s only trying to appease two masters.
Can you imagine if she stepped down under the current system? Beijing would appoint someone far more ruthless and callous and I think she knows this. She is probably filled with despair over a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” scenario.
Personally I think Hong Kong can still negotiate not as protesters but through Carrie Lam. Because Carrie Lam has legitimacy in Beijing’s eyes and therefore has the right to discuss. She isn’t necessarily as able a politician though or as crafty as Xi, but this is in my opinion the best solution:
Carrie Lam must talk to President Xi Jinping directly. I don’t know much what Xi Jinping actually wants, since that guy is a geopolitical poker player, but I do know that China wants the protests to stop and Hong Kong is still valuable to the Chinese as a “neutral ground” geopolitically.
The Communist Party is not necessarily a unified party and is divided into factions that have degrees of infighting. If Lam and Xi were to enter into a sort of alliance that guaranteed Hong Kong’s autonomy or optimistically extend it, Xi would cement his power further in the party in exchange for the city of Hong Kong’s rights maintained.
Still, there are many factors and dramas into play here. Xi cannot afford to look weak since he is built on a decisive and strong leader role. He will only discuss when he is sure it will push through. The jackals in the Communist Party will jump on him kowtowing to Hong Kong and suspected Western interests.
Lam on the otherhand, cannot afford to do anything offensive that would replace her with someone else and so she can do little. But if those two can have “open” and “friendly” talks concerning “reforms” especially showcasing Hong Kong’s unique contributions to China, it is the best chance for the best solution where everybody is satisfied.
This is a game of face).
The Hong Kong people regardless of politics, fights. Like the Charge of the Light Brigade, theirs is not to reason why, theirs is but to do and die. Duty. Noble Seven Million.
TRADE - US MineZ Trade Run
The Directory proudly announces that it has delivered
1 Iron Armor Set
1 Iron Sword
2 Iron Axe
in value exchange for
3 Buttons and Mule
The traditional places of trade were once again mostly abandoned with the exception of one spot. This trade involved walking back and forth to find people in a three-four stacked server. As the Trade Run was leaving, action only came when a bunch of bandits were killing leathers attracting the attention of leathers who were friendly at least to the UNKNOWN [?] Trading Company to go and fight them.
Huh, guess we’ll have to bandit now to attract customers.
Also, Iron Axes for sale. However, no one really was convinced about them.
TRADE - Common Market Trade
The Directory proudly announces that it has witnessed the following goods circulated.

DOMESTIC - SWITCHING PRODUCTION FORCES KAISER ARSENAL TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE SPLASH IIs
New Resource demands, especially ones for iron armor pieces forces Kaiser Arsenal to move its production centers. Ready made Splash IIs are not considered as valuable anymore due to the fact that gunpowder floods the market and almost any boy whore has gunpowder. In the meantime, Kaiser Arsenal factories will either donate or dump their Splash IIs in order to accommodate current economic demands this week.
DOMESTIC - IRISHKAISER PLACES NEW ORDER FOR VIRTUES INDUSTRIES AND PI WORKS LTD.
Irishkaiser greenlighted a project between two tech sub-companies of the UNKNOWN [?] Trading Company. It is interesting to see what the free market can come up with these pseudo-competitions.
Get on, lads. For Agriculture and what not.
