HEADLINES: REPORTS INDICATE THAT MAJORITY OF UNKNOWN [?] TRADING COMPANY WOULD BE RECEPTIVE TO NEW INDUSTRIES

ASPERMONT, WESTERLANDS - A report by a certain New Industries person has stated that after hearing the sentiment of certain players, these people would be most receptive to New Industries products and expertise. Internal opposition however prevented the proposal from gaining traction with members opposing it for different purposes. Company [?] Major Irishkaiser’s complaints were noted as quite racist saying:

“It really bothers me that after the United States just betrayed one of its allies again on the international stage, we would be so quick to trust Americans with this sensitive feature that gives us an unprecedented advantage. Why do you think South Africa gave up its nuclear weapons? BECAUSE BLACKS WERE COMING INTO POWER, SIR. YOU WOULDN’T PUT SUCH THINGS AT THE HANDS OF THE BARBARIANS… SO WHY AMERICANS!?”

The Director said in Queen’s English.

Expanding the market for the New Industries however would help the UNKNOWN [?] Trading Company’s We Will Bury Them Policy - especially on the homefront. In addition, certain individuals have also been marked out as “potential” contributors to the New Industries with skills and expertise seeming to be natural among them. If they were to join the program, it would undoubtedly grow the market with both supply and distribution.

BUT THE HANDS OF THE BARBARIANS. MY GOD, SIR. THE ONES YOU MARKED OUT AREN’T EVEN AMERICAN FURTHER PROVING MY POINT, GODDAMNIT.

EDITORIAL - Plankalkül, War, and programming.

*Risiiiiiiing… THUUUUUUUUUUUUMB!!! - WW2 in respect to computation, programming and technology, is often considered to be notable only for Cryptography- in large part majorly accredited to the work of Alan Turing. It was not however only 1 person working in the field of computation at this point. There was a lot of other people within WW2 involved with cracking the Engima Machine. A large part is thanks to the Polish Cypher Bureau, charged with SIGINT, cryptography and cryptanalysis. Even outside of WW2, computation had been considered long before. Take Pascal’s calculator, or the Leibniz calculator. Both of their works were exceptionally important for establishing the uses of algorithms, as well as mechanical implementations of propositional calculus. Now propositional calculus might sound confusing to you at first, but it’s really quite simple. It deals with propositions that can be true or false. It often goes hand-in-hand with predicate logic and boolean algebra which are ways to combine boolean values. It’s often been independantly thought up by logicians and computer scientists without realising what it actually is, in its formal mathematical definitions and expression. One such person who did this, was a person called Konrade Zuse.

Konrade Zuse was a Computer Scientist working under the Germans during WW2. Though later would he liken his work with the Nazi Regime to that of a “Faustian bargain”. The cost he paid for, to work in the field. There are few domains which will pay for engineering capabilities more than that of Warfare and Military. This is understandable when you consider the importance of Military Engineering. To stack engineering capabilities in your favour, and to deny your enemy the same priviliges, is to put the odds in your favour. Another example of this importance, is the creation of the M1 Garand, a semi-automatic rifle to replace the older bolt-action springfield rifles. Compared to their enemies with bolt-action rifles, this let the Americans have higher fire rate, lower vulnerabilities, and given the ammunition it used, a huge surplus of ammo, so conservation wasn’t critical.

What Konrade Zuse constructed in his time in WW2, was the Z1 electromechanical Computer, created a computer business in 1941 and produced Z4s electromechanical computers. The Z1 used an instruction set, which is comparable to Assembly Language. Assembly Language being a low level form of writing code, based around using small sequences of letters typically 3 characters long, to denote instructions which would do something, given the parameters it had. It was incredibly simple, but simplicity combined gives way to complexity. Perhaps more notable was his creation of the first high level programming language, “Plankalkül”. While it saw little to no practical use, not even implemented in the Z4 systems, though its design existed. It was notable as the first formal high-level language to be designed, but definitely not the first high-level language to be implemented and used in practice. It did lead to inspiration in a language that came shortly after it, “ALGOL”, short for ALGOrithmic Language. It was a language designed to make writing and computing algorithms much easier and efficient, compared with using Assembly languages.

While much of the wartime glory with regards to computational technology is often accredited to Alan Turing, Bletchley Park; The Polish Cypher Bureau, or even to the America with creation of the ENIAC, it’s important to take note of the creations that are often overshadowed by their enemies. History is written by the victor, but this is rarely recognised by the populations of these victors that this applies to technology too. Perhaps another take away from this, is how Programming Languages were devised as solutions to wartime problems. This wasn’t necessarily the case within WW2, as no High Level programming languages saw technical implementation, however the Cold War would occur over the rest of the century leading to huge leaps in not just physics, but also computation. Languages written for business applications(COBOL), written for scientific applications(FORTRAN) or even written for the first thinking machines, AI(LISP). It would also later lead to some of the first video games, such as “Tennis for Two”, a simple but good simulation of tennis with excellent trajectory calculation, though this isn’t much of a surprise considering the technology at the time was often used to calculate ballistic missile trajectories.

TRADE - US MineZ Trade Run

The Directory proudly announces that it has delivered

    2 Chain Armor Sets

    2 Iron Swords

    in value exchange for

    1 Hoe

    4 Potions

    A Zombie Bow

    Bunch of Dead Guy Stuff

One of the spiciest trade runs involving lots of kills, for some strange reason. Reports indicated of an iron bandit down south which the Company stated that was “worth” the effort to kill. When the scouts were there however, they presented confusing reports of the bandit attacking his “friends” and vice versa. However, they all supported each other when attacking third party groups.

A premium volunteer among us attacked and chased the bandit all the way to Romero, before being told to break off due to the fact that it was no longer worth it. Scouts however stayed with the so called “bandit” in case he dies because he was beginning to attract a lot of attention.

He did die and the scouts managed to take a Zombie Bow. Huh, he must’ve just been messing around with his friends and wasn’t really a bandit after all, but I’m sure he consented to being attacked.

FINANCE - CLAN BANK INTERNATIONAL TRADE VOLUME REACHES 1010USD

International Trade between Company Members for the year 2019 has reached 1010USD and is expected to double to 2035USD by the end of the year. Hopefully, anyway. This marks a new milestone of international trade and money movement between actual Company Members and not the Bank and faceless corporations.

Speculations involves that if the trend keeps up, it may serve as a catalyst for the adoption of a US Dollar standard to facilitate easier international trade. But this is economics we’re talking about. Nobody really bloody knows what’s going on. That’s why there are multiple accepted schools of thoughts because they all seem to somehow work at the time… And then not. Because who knows?

    Ah, the Free Market.

FINANCE - 2020 ECONOMIC SLOWDOWN EXPECTED

Forecasts from experts and analysts seem to indicate a global slowdown from the robust growth of previous years since 2016. This could be potentially fatal to the bank whose majority real world economy depends on the performance of the global economy.

The economic slowdown comes from the divide between both the US and China with the trade war disrupting supplies and profits. No it won’t be that bad, but it might be bad for countries who expect that life will get better all the time because a slowing economy means the more you work, the little your living standard improves.
