HEADLINES: WEST MINISTRY WINS VOTE FOR RENAMING IMPERIAL ASSEMBLY
ASPERMONT, WESTERLANDS - West Ministry is the name chosen by vote to replace the Imperial Assembly. Proposed by Company Member Shrauger after a certain dumbass of a crayon-eating Muhreen would not stop eating crayons, the name was actually chosen mocking Irishkaiser’s quip when referring to Westminster.
The other list of names were:
Supreme Soviet Sovereign Assembly Sovereign Rally West Ministry NORF HQ
Additionally, an alternative motion was put forth to change the name of the Imperial General Staff to Hillguards.
A joke name was put forth called KKK but was quickly withdrawn when the Company Member proposing it realized that it would have been placed as a contender.
Taking up an entire week’s worth of discussion, the discussion delved deeper into UNKNOWN [?] Trading Company political theory and may have clarified the relationship between its executive and legislative/judicial family.
Directory Member Irishkaiser proposed putting forth his Directorial prerogative to settle the issue as soon as possible, but acquiesced to the then Assembly’s insistence on the democratic approach. The Director however stated he had the right of veto regardless and justified its existence as a moral safeguard and to prevent a tyranny of the majority or the rule of the mob. The newly named West Ministry then received its title on the 11th of November, 2019 an auspicious day coinciding with Armistice Day and Polish Independence with a high turnout, even catching the eye of retired or inactive Company Members eager to exercise their rights or give their wisdom
EDITORIAL - The Culture of “Moving Out”
Irishkaiser - One thing that is expected of most people nowadays is when they grow old enough or economically sufficient is the practice of moving out of the family abode and start living elsewhere away. This practice is very prevalent in the Western world and is actually exported worldwide to other cultures, but for most of human history you rarely moved out of your ancestral home and only moved when you have better economic opportunity elsewhere wherein NOT moving would be YOUR loss.
Most people didn’t move far because of many things, but the main reasons have always been economical. There is social of course such as for example: Chinese parents wanting their children to stay because they would be taken care of when they grew old. Ancestral homes were also sentimental to many as both high and low used land not only as wealth but prestige and dignity. Still, economics drove the actions based on necessities.
Land of course then was expensive to many organized states and people developed the land they were on, content with what they had, but when the Americas were opened up to European colonization, Westerners flocked to the continents to stake their claim. Never before had they seen so much “free” and available space just asking to be taken. This began the culture of pioneering and homesteading in the Americas, both North and South. The practice eventually evolved and carried over to future generations, solidifying itself in the economics of the post-World War 2 Economic Boom wherein United States citizens wanted to move out of city apartments and homes to have little lands of their own called “suburbs”, with cars providing the means of connecting them to their economic life. As the pre-eminent World Power, US culture and fashion were exported to the world with American standards being deemed the highest for a long time. One such standard and cultural practice many inherited was the social expectation to “move out” of the home… Which is somehow set at a certain age of 18 for a lot of people of that which I am confused. Why 18 exactly..?
In the post World War years, this lifestyle was sustained by the general wealth of the era. Prices for homes were cheap and wages were generally sustainable. This idea became so ingrained in American social expectations that when recessions and depressions came, the practice wasn’t abandoned at all. Alternatives were sought in moving out, rather than not moving out at all such as the economic depression of the 70s and late 60s where US hippie communes or living in cheaper priced apartments and or homes were actually preferred than living with your family. Hell, a lot of people preferred living in their car if times really were tough for them and were shamed to live with their parents.
Past the American economic revival of the 80s and into the optimism of the 90s, it all came crashing down in Wall Street on 2008.
It was so bad, that people were forced by the economics and situation of the time to completely abandon the idea of moving out of their family homes right now but they still retain the stigma and the shame in their culture, telling themselves they’ll move out eventually. Of course we’re doing better than before, but now some people have discovered and found that living in a family home is much much cheaper but the stigma is still there. Used as an insult many times by both right-wing and left-wing politicos, even though they find it as a problem, it just doesn’t make sense to me when the cognitive dissonance of HAVING to move out is now combined with people saying we need to reduce our carbon footprint and help the environment and or spend less frivolously.
I heard it was normal for Americans to make three hour drives to visit their parents at least once a week. Three hours there and three hours back again… Doesn’t that seem wasteful? Again, constructing new homes may be good for a construction economy but, you have to take land eventually, spreading not only development and its upsides, but its downsides as well such as pollution, ecological destabilization, etc. Plus, like cars, homes themselves depreciate in value unless special conditions have been met. It is the land that becomes valuable, but the home above it needs constant maintenance and repair.
Moving out to me, seems on a whole wasteful and inefficient. Especially at a time where many people are becoming more environmentally aware, they somehow ignore this little(not really) luxury they have that can become hugely inefficient and grossly wasteful. What concerns me is that this American practice has been adopted socially around the world. Though in the Philippines for example, there is no age to move out of the house and only when you’re married is where it’s expected, I personally think that the American choice to stay in their family homes would be overall a better and more efficient future.
And maybe you guys will revive your public transport and trains when people stay at home and develop the city and land around them rather than having to justify a Goddamn drive to work or school every fucking day.
